Kara Mithra - The Army of MithrasThere are two states of life - Peace and War. Mithraism has something to say about each, but here we talk spiritual warfare. When the world has fallen into disorder and life has become intolerable then Mithras returns to us as leader of an army - the Kara Mithra. This army builds its strength and goes into battle against the evil archons to restore the Good World Order of Asha. The ancient Persians had two words for army - Kara and Spada. The Kara were formed from those with direct allegiance to the King, often wealthy people able to dedicate time to training and pay for the best equipment. They formed the backbone of a larger army - the Spada - which also included conscripts from all the Persians' allies or tribute states. In our religious use the Kara is formed of all those with Mihranoia or Mithra-consciousness. The Kara offers itself in the service of mankind to be the vanguard of the larger Spada composed of all those taking up the struggle for a good world order. N.B. The word Kara is related to Lithuanian Karis, Anglo-Saxon Here and modern German Heer - all meaning army. "The Kóryos (Proto-Indo-European: "army, people under arms" or "detachment, war party") refers to the hypothetical Proto-Indo-European brotherhood of warriors in which unmarried young males served for a number of years before their full integration to the host society, in the context of a rite of passage into manhood.” November 4021 HE |
